Spartan Stores shows support for auto workers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. Spartan Stores is showing its support to General Motors auto workers who have lost their jobs by providing them with special "Michigan Proud" cards that provide 10% discount on groceries and 3% on fuel now through July 12.

Spartan provided 850 cards to the UAW Region 1D office for distribution to the autoworkers affected by the closing of the GM Metal Fabricating Plant located at 300 36th Street SW in Wyoming.

"We all know the American Auto Industry is going through a difficult period," noted Alan Hartline, EVP merchandising and marketing for Spartan Stores. "Yet we believe the American Spirit will prevail and the industry will come out of this difficult time a new and stronger entity."
