ShopperTrak Report: Weekly sales edge up 0.9%

9/29/2009

Chicago ShopperTrak on Tuesday released its findings from the National Retail Sales Estimate, showing that year-over-year GAFO retail sales declined 3.3% for the week ending Sept. 26, while sales increased 0.9% versus the previous week ending Sept. 19.

According to the report, GAFO retail sales remained slow last week, citing a lull before the Columbus Day and Halloween holidays in October, as well as mild and wet weather impacts on fall clothing purchases.

“Weather patterns typically impact retail sales this time of year and with some colder weather expected next week, retail sales may improve as fall shopping begins,” said Bill Martin, co-founder of ShopperTrak.
