Shopify expands Facebook buy button pilot

Ottawa, Canada – The Shopify e-commerce platform is expanding a beta test of the Facebook “buy” button with select U.S. retailers, by invite only. Facebook began piloting the buy button, which lets desktop or mobile consumers click the “buy” call-to-action button on ads and page posts to purchase a product directly from a business, without leaving Facebook, in July 2014.


After adding the new Facebook sales channel to their Shopify account, retailers can start posting products with buy buttons on their Facebook pages or posts, promoting those posts with paid advertising, and managing all the customers and orders that come in from Facebook. Shopify will provide everything needed to manage Facebook sales, and retailers will have access to analytics of their Facebook sales.


This program provides Facebook with a standard e-commerce platform for testing its buy button and gives Shopify retailers a new, convenient sales channel.
