September Sales Weaker Than Forecasted
New York City, U.S. retailers will likely report weaker than expected September same-store sales because of abnormally warm weather and concerns over the health of the economy, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
Sales for the month will increase only about 2%, below ICSC’s previous estimate of as much as 2.5%. Same-store sales in the week ended Oct. 6 rose 2.1%, the slowest pace since mid-June, ICSC and UBS Securities said in a survey released Tuesday. Most retailers report their sales results Thursday.
