SC Johnson chief talks transparency
SC Johnson chief talks transparency SC Johnson CEO Fisk Johnson said his company wants to “lay it all out there” when it comes to transparency and greater disclosure in the consumer goods industry.
Speaking at the 2014 Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) annual meeting, Johnson discussed the critical need for the industry to build trust so families can feel comfortable with and believe in the products they bring home. He also said the industry should be clear and fact-based in environmental discussions, and advocate for better regulation.
"Simply, the science on chemical safety is very complex and therefore easily misinterpreted and distorted. If we want to earn trust and credibility, we have to lay it all out there for scrutiny, address genuine safety concerns and uphold high standards," Johnson said.
In October, SC Johnson was the first major U.S. consumer packaged goods company to announce that it will expand its ingredient disclosure efforts by providing product-specific fragrance ingredient information.
In November, SC Johnson published details from its day-to-day restricted-use list for product formulators in its 2014 sustainability report. The company is also expanding its ingredient disclosure program to the European Union in 2015 with the launch of a European Ingredient Disclosure website that will contain content similar to U.S. website WhatsInsideSCJohnson.com. SC Johnson brands include Glade, Kiwi, Off!, Pledge, Raid, Scrubbing Bubbles, Shout, Windex and Ziploc in the United States, and Autan, Tana, Bama, Baygon, Brise, Kabikiller, Klear, Mr Muscle and Ridsect outside the United States.
