RadioShack to Educate Public on Digital TV
Fort Worth, Texas RadioShack announced a partnership with the American Library Association (ALA) to provide education and information about the transition to digital television (DTV) that is scheduled to begin nationwide on Feb. 17, 2009.
RadioShack associates from the chain’s approximately 4,500 company stores as well as participating franchise stores will host educational sessions at the 16,000 public libraries in the ALA.
The educational sessions will help inform the public about what is needed to continue viewing television broadcasts after the conversion to DTV and how individuals can go about applying for government coupons to offset the costs of transitioning. The government is offering two $40 coupons per household to apply to the purchase of digital converter boxes.
Prior to the official transition date of Feb. 17, a market test of DTV will be conducted on Sept. 8 in Wilmington, N.C.
