Peapod makes smart shopping app even smarter

7/8/2015

As grocery shoppers’ lives keep getting busier, Ahold’s online grocery delivery service Peapod keeps trying to make shopping easier.

Peapod has completely redesigned its mobile and tablet app, with larger, high-resolution photos and a host of new features designed to streamline and simplify online shopping.

Two such features are Filter, which allows Peapod customers to find items based on preferences like organic or nut-free. In addition, Order Genius is an intuitive search recommendation engine with smart functionality exclusive to Peapod that makes automatic recommendations based on prior purchases. Order Genius also differentiates by seasonality and product cycle, and learns more about a customer’s purchase behavior as they use it over time.

And, in partnership with recipe-planning service GatheredTable, Peapod can automatically generate a menu of weekly meals tailored for user preferences. In one click, customers can add all the recipe ingredients they need into their Peapod shopping cart.

Other features include smart search by keyword, UPC, or barcode scan; personalized lists of favorite items; and one-click displays of available delivery time slots, and in most locations, pick-up time slots

“Mobile drives business: more than half of Peapod orders are touched by a mobile device,” said Thomas Parkinson, Peapod’s CTO and co-founder. “So, to ensure that we give our increasing number of mobile shoppers what they want and support a growing revenue driver for the company, the completely redesigned Peapod app boasts higher speed, better features and a more personalized shopping experience than ever before.”
