Online gifting service Wrapp makes U.S. debut; launch partners include H&M, Gap and Sephora
New York -- Wrapp, a new online gift service from Sweden, has launched in the United States, partnering with such retailers as Gap, H&M and Sephora to let consumers send free virtual gift cards to friends on Facebook.
Wrapp launched in Sweden at the end of last year, and has since gone live in Norway and the United Kingdom, Germany, France and The Netherlands. An application that runs on mobile devices and computers, Wrapp provides users with free gift cards (typically for a small amount of value) from participating retailers that they can send to a Facebook friend. Users can also add more money on to the card before sending it to a friend on Facebook. The friend can redeem the card online, via a mobile device or in a store.
Retailers who participate in Wrapp can set the criteria for their cards, such as the expiration date, the target demographic and the like.
Wrapp’s founders include the world-famous tech expert Hjalmar Winbladh, a co-founder of Sendit, and a co-founder of Rebtel, the world’s largest independent mobile VoIP firm. Former H&M chief executive Fabian Mansson is Wrapp’s chairman.
