NCR to install more Blockbuster DVD kiosks

6/29/2010

Duluth, Ga. NCR Corp. said Tuesday it plans to install more Blockbuster DVD vending machines in Tennessee, Kentucky and elsewhere in the South.

NCR, which operates the rental kiosks for Blockbuster, said the DVD kiosks will be installed in Mapco Express and nearly 100 Daily's convenience stores in Tennessee and elsewhere in the South.

NCR bought DVDPlay in December, and since then has been working to replace DVDPlay kiosks with Blockbuster Express kiosks.

The kiosk rollout is part of Blockbuster's effort to catch up with Redbox, the Coinstar subsidiary that pioneered $1-per-night rentals from vending machines, and to try to compete with online DVD rental company Netflix.
