DETROIT Bob Nardelli, former chairman and ceo of Home Depot has joined Chrysler LLC as its chairman and ceo, the company announced Sunday. Chrysler's board of directors also announced that Tom LaSorda has been appointed vice chairman and president of Chrysler LLC, reporting to Nardelli.

"We are excited to welcome Bob to the Chrysler family," said LaSorda. "Bob has a proven track record of success and an unwavering focus on performance, and brings deep operational experience and a broad industry background to Chrysler. His background in operations will provide valuable knowledge as we continue Chrysler's turnaround."

Nardelli, along with LaSorda and nine other members, will serve on the board of directors of the newly private Chrysler.

On Jan. 3, Home Depot announced that Bob Nardelli would leave his position as chairman, president and ceo and as a director. He was succeeded by Frank Blake, who was previously serving as vice chairman of the board.

Nardelli took home about $131.2 million in total compensation in 2006, according to an April 13 SEC filing. Nardelli's pay included a $2.3 million salary, a $3 million bonus and about $16.3 million in stock awards.
