More Nook promotions from Barnes & Noble

Barnes & Noble is trying to generate excitement around its struggling Nook products with a giveaway tied to social media.


The retailer says the #NOOKReadingStyle Sweepstakes is designed to inspire book lovers to share their reading style on their Facebook pages and other social media channels. Through March 31, participants can enter for a chance to win exciting prizes, including a $500 Gilt E-Gift Card, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK and 100 $25 Barnes & Noble Gift Cards by completing the sweepstakes entry form on the NOOK Facebook page.


“We’re excited to launch the #NOOKReadingStyle Sweepstakes and provide reading fans with the unique opportunity to flaunt their latest, fabulous reads and the fun ways they’re reading with NOOK,” said Jeanniey Mullen, Vice President of Marketing at NOOK. “At NOOK, we know our readers take pride in not only what they read, but when, where and how they read. This exciting sweepstakes will allow them and their friends to discuss both in an enjoyable way and enter for a chance to win fantastic prizes.”


Participants will also be encouraged on NOOK’s social media channels to post about what, where, when and how they like to read, and discuss all the great ways they enjoy reading with NOOK, while inviting their friends to do the same on social media using the hashtag#NOOKReadingStyle.


In January, Barnes and Noble Inc. reported a sharp decline in holiday sales in its Nook e-reader division, even as its retail segment showed small improvement. The Nook segment (including digital content, devices and accessories), had sales of $56 million for the nine-week holiday period, decreasing 55% as compared to a year ago. Device and accessories sales were $28.5 million, a decrease of 68%. Digital content sales were $27.4 million, a decline of 25%.
