Mommy, I want a Bearded Dragon

7/7/2015

A unique traffic generating and sales diversification promotion that doesn’t involved dogs and cats will take place at Petco stores nationwide on July 18.

The operator of more than 1,400 locations plans to host a two hour Reptile Rally on Saturday July 18 where the objective is to expose customers to the world of reptiles, create interest in ownership and the wide range of products that are available.

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Petco stores will feature tutorials on how to care for the complete health of reptile pets by addressing all of their physical, mental, social and emotional needs. Attendees will also have the opportunity to get to know and learn interesting tidbits about the sociable Bearded Dragon, distinctive Ball Python and colorful Veiled Chameleon.

The event is an opportunity for Petco to drive participation in a smaller category of pet ownership by debunking some commonly held views. For example, contrary to conventional wisdom, reptiles can be socialized and may even show signs of affection, according to Petco.

The retailer will also be educating attendees that reptiles are a great pet for animal lovers whose allergic reactions to animal hair and dander may disqualify more conventional pets. Low maintenance is another benefit.

Some reptiles need to be fed only once or twice a week and don’t require owners to lug heavy bags of food home from a store. Longevity is another potential benefit with some reptiles living 10 to 20 years, or even longer.
