Macy's posts monthly sales decrease

CINCINNATI Macy’s Inc. reported total sales of $1.58 billion for the four weeks ended Feb. 28, a decrease of 9.3% compared with total sales of $1.73 billion in the four weeks ended March 1, 2008. On a same-store basis, Macy’s Inc. sales were down 8.5% in February. This is consistent with management’s expectations.

Online sales (macys.com and bloomingdales.com combined) were up by 16.2% in February. Online sales are included in the same-store sales calculation for Macy’s Inc.
