Macy's to hire 65K associates for holiday season

9/23/2010

CINCINNATI Macy’s Inc. said it plans to hire approximately 65,000 seasonal associates in its stores, call centers, distribution centers and online fulfillment centers nationwide for the 2010 holiday season. The hiring plan represents a slight increase from previous years, reflecting the company’s expectations for same-store sales in the second half of fiscal 2010 to be up by 3% to 3.5%, Macy's reported.

“It is vitally important that our customers are well-served during the busiest shopping time of the year. So we ramp up our workforce starting now and running through December,” said Terry Lundgren, Macy’s Inc. chairman, president and chief administrative officer. “Our seasonal associates serve customers on the selling floor, work behind the scenes in store operations positions, interact with customers via the telephone in call centers, and staff the distribution and fulfillment centers that coordinate shipments to our stores and directly to customers who buy online.”

Applications for seasonal positions at Macy’s are being accepted online now at www.macysJOBS.com. Candidates who fill the company’s criteria will receive by email an invitation to interview. Hiring for store sales positions will begin in early October. Hiring for operations positions already has begun.

“Working in a seasonal position at Macy’s is a great way to earn extra money at the holidays. Many of our seasonal hires are students on break, stay-at-home parents, individuals in career transitions or those with extra time they would like to use productively,” Lundgren said. “Retailing is a fast-paced business, and working at Macy’s during this magical time of the year can be fun and rewarding.”
