Linens ‘n Things Name Lives On

1/27/2009

Northbrook, Ill. Linens ‘n Things, which closed its doors at the end of 2008, is getting a second chance after two investment firms agreed to purchase the retailer’s name and logo for $1 million.

During a bankruptcy auction earlier this month, retail liquidators Hilco Consumer Capital and Gordon Brothers Brands won the rights to the company's intellectual property, including software, technology and marketing material, according to a Hilco spokesman.

The companies plan to license the name to other retailers, with the idea that they will create in-store shops to market merchandise under the Linens ‘n Things brand.

Both investment companies, which were part of a group of six liquidators that ran the retailer’s going-out-of business sales, have recently bought trademarks of  other bankrupt companies, such as The Sharper Image and Bombay Co.
