Kmart to launch online layaway

Hoffman Estates, Ill. Kmart is gearing up to launch its new online layaway service this Friday. Visitors to kmart.com will be able to browse items and place them on layaway for pick-up at a local store.

Kmart's online layaway system features an availability grid to help shoppers confirm the availability of their items at time of purchase, a layaway calculator that details the layaway payment schedule and down-payment information on the layaway contract. It also includes a layaway manager that allows users to make payments, view their payment schedule and see other contract details.

“We have an entire generation of customers that grew up shopping online,” said Mark Snyder, chief marketing officer, Kmart. “Launching online layaway at Kmart engages these customers by allowing them to spread their payments out over time and better plan their spending.”
