iPhone tops U.S. phone sales in July
CUPERTINO, Calif. The iPhone swept the competition this July, outselling all smart phones in the U.S. during the month, and equaling the sales of the most popular feature phone, LG's Chocolate, according to a study by iSuppli. The popular Apple phone accounted for 1.8% of all mobile-handset unit sales to U.S. consumers during July.
The iPhone outsold some of the most popular smart phones on the market, including those by Blackberry and Palm, according to the study.
The iPhone surge in sales also helped AT&T, the exclusive provider of the phones service. According to iSupply, one quarter of consumers who purchased iPhones switched to AT&T service.
