Hot Topic profit and sales slip, misses estimates

City of Industry, Calif. Hot Topic said Thursday its third-quarter revenue declined and it missed Wall Street expectations during the weak economy.

For the three months that ended Oct. 31, the company that operates Hot Topic and Torrid stores said it earned $5.8 million, compared with $7.4 million a year earlier.

Sales dropped 4% to $189.6 million, from $197.3 million. Analysts expected sales of $190.3 million.

Same-store sales declined 5%.
