Havertys Q1 sales rise 5%

4/7/2015

Atlanta - Sales for first quarter 2015 at Havertys Inc. increased 5% to $191.3 million, compared to $181.7 million for first quarter 2014. Same-store sales rose 3.8%.

Havertys plans to open three new stores in 2015, including a store in Rogers, Arkansas that will open this week and a showroom in Waco, Texas slated to open in mid-May. This expansion into two new markets for Havertys will occur as Havertys strengthens its position in southeast Florida, with a new store in Fort Lauderdale slated for July,

Total written sales for the first quarter of 2015 increased 6.3% and written same-store sales were up 4.8%. Higher average tickets drove the sales increase as Havertys design staff were involved in more sales transactions.

“Our written business was slightly better than our expectations at the beginning of the first quarter,” said Clarence H. Smith, chairman, president and CEO. “We are experiencing some imported product availability issues resulting from the West Coast port slowdown, which contributed to our written business exceeding our delivered sales for the quarter.”
