Group looks to sell Fortunoff intellectual property portfolio

Westbury, N.Y. Fortunoff is hoping to follow in the steps of Sharper Image, Linens ’n Things and other defunct retailers whose stores have disappeared but whose brand names and other intellectual properties live on. The jewelry and home-goods chain has commissioned Consor Intellectual Asset Management to undertake an intense marketing and sales initiative for its intellectual property and intangible assets.

The assets for sale include more than 70 registered trademarks from Fortunoff’s portfolio, including Fortunoff, The Source, Prime Time, and Oxford Hall, and some 75 international domain names including, Fortunoff.com, fortunoffbrides.com and fortunoffjewelry.com. According to the Consor release, “With historical sales exceeding $400 million annually, along with Web traffic statistics exceeding 6.7 million page views per month, the Fortunoff IP assets offer an immediate opportunity for re-launch via brick-and-mortar and e-commerce.”
