FAO Schwarz finds a home in Macy's
NEW YORK Christmas will be coming early in Chicago with the opening of one the world’s favorite toy stores in Macy’s on State Street.
FAO Schwarz will open its first "store within a store" at Macy's on Nov. 1, the companies announced Wednesday. The 5,200-square-foot shop at Macy's on State Street will be filled with the specialty toys, stuffed animals and more to entertain another generation of children.
The new shop marks FAO Schwarz's return to Chicago after five years, and the launch of a new strategic expansion.
"We're bringing the joys of toys back to Chicago," said Ed Schmults, ceo for FAO Schwarz. "Chicago is the perfect city for this expansion, and we're proud to be teamed up with Macy's. We intend to create a corner of enchantment on State Street. With the solid overlap between our customers, we think our presence in Macy's benefits us both."
Macy's North, one of seven regionally based divisions of Macy's, will fuse its ambience with the enthralling appeal of the toy store, fittingly located in the children’s department on the fifth floor.
"FAO Schwarz is a world renowned leader in specialty toys and we're thrilled to welcome them to Macy's on State Street," said Frank Guzzetta, chairman and ceo of Macy's North. "This new store within a store will enhance our customers' shopping experience and the excitement and magic at Macy's on State Street for all ages just in time for the holiday season."
Customers are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring the world-famous FAO Schwarz Toy Soldier on November 2 at 10:45 a.m.
