Estee Lauder's updates department store counters

New York City Cosmetics purveyor Estee Lauder Cos. announced it is updating its department store beauty counters in an attempt to attract younger customers and encourage off-line makeup sales.

According to a Tuesday report by the Wall Street Journal, Estee Lauder has revamped its counter designs to promote browsing, as well as to jump-start new promotions and speed service, including self-service options. Estee Lauder's MAC brand has been testing new hand-held devices that let staffers ring up purchases.
