San Jose, Calif. – The nation’s largest online marketplace is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and it’s marking the occasion with a special shopping event — and a traveling Airstream trailer.
eBay, which launched on September 3, 1995, will kick off “20 Days of Deals” anniversary event on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The promotion will deliver daily access to a limited amount of deals from featured sellers with deeply discounted prices and free shipping. While the deals are open to all online shoppers, consumers in San Francisco, Denver, and New York City will get to inspect some of the deals close up. The company is taking a customized Airstream trailer eBay on tour, and selling some of the goods right out of the truck.
The promotion kicks off on the same day eBay is holding a summit for sellers in San Jose, California, at which executives will speak about upcoming changes the company plans to launch as part of the fall seller update.
In addition, through Oct. 15, eBay is providing a special selling offer to list 80 additional fixed price or auction-style listings, and pay zero listing fees.
eBay is also launching with a new app for iOS and Android. Based on customer feedback, the eBay 4.0 app introduces a simplified user experience, as well as personalization that learns from consumer interests and delivers a tailored shopping and selling experience based on activity, the company said.
“The new eBay mobile app reflects our commitment to designing great experiences for our buyers and enabling continued growth for our sellers,” said Devin Wenig, eBay CEO. “Our success is driven by our extraordinary global community – and we are driven by our purpose to empower people and create opportunity through connected commerce. As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of our amazing company, our marketplace has never been larger, never had more choice for consumers around the world, and never been more vibrant than today. We’re just getting started.”
