Dillard's monthly sales fall

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. Dillard’s reported a total sales decrease of 6% for October. The company reported that sales for the four weeks ended Nov. 3 were $444.7 million compared to sales for the four weeks ended Oct. 28, 2006 of $473.4 million last year. Total sales for the four-week period declined 6%. Sales in comparable-stores declined 7%.

The company reported that during October, sales in the Central region performed above average, while sales in the Eastern and Western regions fell below trend.

During the four weeks ended Nov. 3, the sales performance trend in the cosmetics category was significantly above the company’s average performance for the period. Sales of juniors’ and children’s apparel were significantly below trend for the period.
