Chicago Sports Depot, Chicago
Chicago Sports Depot, a one-stop shopping destination for all things White Sox as well as other Chicago sports teams, offers consumers the ultimate in sports merchandising. The 15,000-sq.-ft. store was developed through a close collaboration between Delaware North Companies and the Chicago White Sox, with RGLA Solutions, Schiller Park, Ill., serving as the design architect.

The store, which carries branded-merchandise from the White Sox, Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks and Cubs, as well as from several area colleges and universities, is one of the largest of its kind at any professional sports stadium. Infused with an overall baseball theme, the design employs state-of-the-art technology to showcase Chicago’s sport teams. A baseball-styled stitching pattern on the floor leads customers through the space, while oversized championship murals on two-story staircase walls and perimeter walls help brand the space.
A key feature of the store is a full motion LED video staircase, billed as the first one of its kind in the United States, which displays sports-related video feed, images and team logos. The staircase, which utilizes some 15,000 LED lights and was developed in collaboration with RGLA and Phillips Color Kinetics Division, entices fans to shop both levels while making a powerful branding statement. More than 75 video monitors, including four video walls, are positioned throughout the space.
Reproductions of front-page newspaper stories were incorporated onto the walls to recreate the local excitement of past championships. A display of White Sox logos allows customers to connect with the team through memories of various eras. The attention to detail extends into every space of the store, including the bathroom – where a catcher’s mask light fixture is installed.
