Boston Marathon RunBase has opened its doors, close to the finish line of the world-famous competition. The store offers an immersive retail experience that celebrates the race and offers premium Adidas footwear and seasonal and official marathon apparel and accessories. Exhibits and historic photos from the past 119 years of the event are featured, including race bibs, medals, trophies and jackets. Visitors can even “run” the race on a treadmill that simulates every step of the 26.2 mile course, complete with corresponding visuals and terrain.
The 2,000-sq.-ft. space, which is operated by athletic footwear giant Adidas and the Boston Athletic Association, organizer of the Boston Marathon, in partnership with Marathon Sports, also boasts a large cast of the marathon symbol, a unicorn, and a 10-ft. 3D topographic animated race map. Four interactive screens across the space will display key moments in race history along with an archive featuring every participant since the marathon’s inception.
RunBase is also designed to serve as a resource for runners, and will host seminars and clinics. It has a changing room with showers and lockers, allowing runners to use the facility as a base.
Adidas currently operates six RunBase stores around the globe, including Tokyo, London, and Moscow. Although Boston is the first U.S. site, several additional U.S. locations are in the works.
