Amazon kindles the holiday fire

11/27/2012

SEATTLE — It’s no surprise that on the heels of record-breaking Cyber Monday sales, heavyweight Amazon reported record sales of its popular Kindle devices.

Cyber Monday 2012 proved to be the biggest day ever for Kindle sales worldwide, cementing the top four spots for Kindle e-readers and Kindle fires on Amazon’s worldwide bestsellers list. The Kindle devices have held the top four spots since their launch nearly three months ago.

To celebrate Cyber Monday, Amazon.com offered the Kindle Fire for $129.

“We’re excited that customers made this Black Friday and Cyber Monday the best ever for Kindle worldwide. Cyber Monday was the biggest day ever for Kindle sales, and we’re looking forward to millions of customers opening a new Kindle this holiday season,” said Dave Limp, VP, Amazon Kindle.

Other Kindle devices include the $69 Kindle, which is small, light and fast; the Kindle Paperwhite, touted as the world’s most advanced e-reader, for $119; and the Kindle Paperwhite 3G, which gives users free 3G Web access, for $179.

Also faring very well are the Kindle Fire devices, which include the upgraded version of the bestselling standard definition Kindle Fire with a faster processor, twice the memory and longer battery life, for $159; the Kindle Fire HD, a 7” tablet, with a custom HD display, the fastest Wi-Fi, exclusive Dolby audio, powerful processor and graphics engine, and 16 GB of storage, for $199; the Kindle Fire HD 8.9” for $299; and the Kindle Fire HD 8.9” 4G for $499.
