    CHICAGO — Retail executives are moderating their expectations for 2013 following uneven sales in December and January, according to a new survey of CFOs by professional services form BDO USA.

    SUFFERN, N.Y. — Ascena Retail Group, a leading specialty retailer offering clothing, shoes, and accessories for missy and plus-size women and tween girls, under the Justice, Lane Bryant, maurices, dressbarn and Catherines brands, has named Ronnie Robinson to the position of president Ascena Global Sourcing (AGS).

  • Report: Office Depot in talks to sell off rest of Mexican unit

    New York -- A Friday report by Bloomberg said that Office Depot is considering selling the remaining 50% of its Mexican unit to Grupo Gigante SAB, which currently owns the other half.

    Citing unnamed sources, Bloomberg reported that Grupo Gigante is in talks with local banks to fund the acquisition of Office Depot de Mexico.
     

  • Supply chain event has omni-channel emphasis

    Thought leaders from the supply chain world are scheduled to participate in a forward-looking event scheduled for April 11 in Northwest Arkansas.

    The event is organized by the Supply Chain Management Research Center at the University of Arkansas and this year’s theme is, "Supply chains 2020: collaborating to win in an omni-channel world."

  • Walmart U.S. CFO to share ‘Bigg’ picture

    Brett Biggs, Walmart U.S. CFO, will share his views on the company’s performance during an upcoming Doing Business in Bentonville meeting.

    Bigg’s is slated to speak at the event scheduled for 7 a.m., March 13 in Rogers, Ar., and could have some interesting things to say given the timing of the event. Walmart is due to report fourth quarter and full year results next week on February 21 and then on March 7 the company hosts a two day event in Orlando for store managers and suppliers where new initiatives tend to be unveiled.

  • comScore: M-commerce transactions account for 11% of e-commerce spending

    Reston, Va. -- Despite the backdrop of continued economic uncertainty, 2012 was a strong year for retail e-commerce, according to comScore’s “2013 U.S. Digital Future in Focus” report. Throughout the year, growth rates versus the prior year remained in the mid-teens to outpace growth at brick-and-mortar retail by a factor of approximately four times.

  • Target contest engages fans with Mindless Behavior

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target has partnered with pop music group Mindless Behavior to let fans write lyrics for the band, the mass merchandise retailer said Thursday.

    The contest, called "Your Lyrics, Their Voices," gives fans the opportunity to write their own song lyrics for a verse of a special fan edition of the title track for the album "All Around the World."

  • Menchie's launches mobile app

    Encino, Calif. -- Yogurt chain Menchie’s said Friday it has launched a new mobile app, Yumm Finder, for iPhones, featuring location finder capabilities and featured promotions.

    Menchie's partnered with RAZUR, based in Atlanta, to develop and release the app.
