  • Kraft Foods expands footprint in Champaign, Ill.

    Kraft Foods Group has selected Becknell Industrial to develop and build a new warehouse to support its existing facility in Champaign, Ill. The 730,000-sq.-ft. warehouse will be located on a 35-acre parcel adjacent to its manufacturing site, which is Kraft's largest production facility in North America.

  • Retail store traffic down more than 7% during government shutdown

    Chicago -- Although the first government shutdown in 17 years lasted 16 days, it left an impact on more than just the workers sent home after lawmakers failed to arrive at a deal to end the spending and debt stalemate. Total retail store shopper traffic during the week of Sept. 29 to Oct. 5 decreased 7.5% compared to the same time period last year, according to ShopperTrak, a leading provider of shopper analytics.

    The Washington, D.C. area saw an even greater decrease, with an 11.4% decline in year-over-year shopper traffic the week of Oct. 6-12.

  • Kirkland’s launches rewards program

    Specialty home décor and gifts retailer Kirkland’s is looking to foment customer loyalty with the launch of a K Club Rewards loyalty program on Oct. 20, which will offer consumers exclusive discount opportunities and points on eligible purchases.

    “We are excited to offer our customers a new way to earn rewards when they shop at Kirkland’s,” said Mark Krebs, Kirkland’s VP of marketing. “Our goal was to make this program customer-centric, simple and fun, and we have been pleased to hear positive feedback so far.”

  • PetSmart expects FY13 sales growth of 3%-4%

    Phoenix – PetSmart Inc. has issued guidance for fiscal year 2013 for total sales growth of 3%-4%, as well as same-store sales growth of 3%-4%, compared to the prior fiscal year. PetSmart also slightly downgraded previous same-store sales guidance for the third quarter of fiscal 2013 to 2.2%-2.5%, from previously issued guidance of 3%-4%.

  • NRF: Shutdown deal avoids issues

    Washington, D.C. – Matthew Shay, president and CEO of the National Retail Federation released a statement on the decision to reopen the federal government through Jan. 15 and raise the debt ceiling until Feb. 7. Shay said that while the agreement provides some satisfaction, it essentially continues debate and postpones difficult economic decisions that must be made.
