  • Save-A-Lot to support sales with new DC

    St. Louis – Save-A-Lot will open a new 140,000-sq.-ft. food distribution center in Aurora, Colo., in June 2014. Save-A-Lot currently services its stores in this market out of the company’s distribution center located in Dallas.

    nGage Labs, a leading provider of personalized mobile engagement technology, has named Dave Alberty as CFO.

    Alberty was most recently SVP and global controller of TriVita, a multi-national supplement company based in Scottsdale, Ariz.

  • DSW moving into Canadian market; buys 44% stake in Canada’s Town Shoes

    Columbus, Ohio -- In a move to establish a base in Canada, DSW Inc. has entered into an agreement to buy an approximate 44% stake in Canadian footwear retailer Town Shoes. The transaction, expected to close in May, is valued at approximately $62 million. Under the agreement, DSW will have the right to purchase the rest of Town Shoes after four years.

  • Omnichannel beauty brand Julep’s social media strategy pays off

    Founded in 2007, Julep is a fast-growing omnichannel beauty brand that takes a social approach to product development. The brand, which is perhaps best known for its monthly beauty box delivery program, has raised $30 million in Series C financing.

    New investors Azure Capital, Madrona Venture Group and Altimeter Capital, as well as existing investors Andreessen Horowitz and Maveron, participated in the round. The new investment brings Julep's total venture funding to $56 million.

  • Dollarama taps new chief operating officer

    Dollarama has appointed Johanne Choinière as chief operating officer, effective May 12. Choinière will be responsible for overseeing retail store operations as well as logistics, distribution and supply chain management.

    Basel, Switzerland – Switzerland’ largest food retailer, Coop, has rolled out Reflexis Task Manager to its stores. Coop uses the application to: communicate efficiently and effectively between corporate, field, and stores; improve planning; and benefit from feedback, sharing of best practices, and real-time visibility into task execution.

  • NRF to launch information-sharing platform

    The National Retail Federation is moving forward with the creation of a program that will provide retailers access to information on cybersecurity threats identified by retailers, government and law enforcement agencies and partners in the financial services sector.

    The program, developed in consultation with the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), will launch with the establishment of an information-sharing platform for retail industry information security specialists, and plans call for a retail ISAC to be established in June.

    Banana Republic has teamed up with designer Roland Mouret to launch the Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection — a limited-edition collection that uses Banana Republic's signature Sloan contour stretch fabric.

    Mouret is best known for his feminine, hourglass fitted dresses.
