New Skechers store is its largest yet on the East Coast
Skechers has gone big in New Jersey.
The athletic lifestyle footwear brand has opened a nearly 22,000-sq.-ft. “superstore” at The Mills at Jersey Gardens, in Elizabeth. It’s Skechers’ biggest East Coast retail destination to date.
Located on the second floor of the Simon mall, the new store features dedicated Skechers Performance and Skechers Work shop-in-shop areas, a 4,000-sq.-ft. dedicated Skechers apparel shop and a vast offering of casual footwear and athletic styles for men, women and children. The assortment includes shoes for the latest sports craze: pickleball.
Featuring an easy-to-shop circulation path, the store is designed as an interactive gallery of the Skechers experience, with engaging digital displays and fabric lightboxes featuring the brand’s marketing. Other features include LED lighting, concrete and recycled vinyl flooring, energy-conscious ceiling fans, as well as recycled rubber seating throughout the store.
The new store replaces the previous Skechers store at Jersey Gardens, which was much smaller, at 2,900 sq. ft.
“Skechers is a multifaceted lifestyle brand that offers footwear of every kind, from sandals and boots to occupational shoes, running, walking, golf and now pickleball shoes, and more,” said Michael Greenberg, president of Skechers, which has more than 540 U.S. stores. “To help us meet consumers’ growing demand for our product, Simon Property Group found the ideal size and location for our new home … one that allows us to showcase our apparel in a dedicated 4,000-sq.-ft. space. A complete fashion, lifestyle and performance destination that enables regional consumers, locals and tourists to explore our entire comfort offering.”
The Mills at Jersey Gardens is near New York City and Newark International Airport, and the center offers daily transportation from Manhattan Port Authority Bus Terminal for tax-free shopping.
In addition to the 540-plus U.S. Skechers, the brand has more than 3,700 international locations.
