New Balance expands resale effort to apparel

New Balance is accepting apparel items for resale.

New Balance is widening the assortment of second-hand products it sells.

The athletic footwear giant is now including apparel in Reconsidered, the brand’s resale program. With the addition of apparel, Reconsidered shoppers can purchase pre‑owned New Balance footwear, as well as footwear and apparel from consumer returns with cosmetic imperfections that cannot be sold as new, all of which have been cleaned and inspected.

Customers can also trade in gently worn New Balance shoes by mail or at more than 100 retail locations and receive a voucher for accepted items toward their next purchase on NewBalance.com or at participating U.S. New Balance retail locations. Apparel is not currently available for trade‑in.

New Balance launched Reconsidered as a footwear resale initiative in February 2024. Through a dedicated section of the New Balance website, customers have been able to view and shop for pre-owned shoes.

"Reconsidered has been an impactful platform for New Balance consumers to access popular, like-new or gently worn styles while helping to extend the life of our footwear," said Tracy Knauer, VP of North America marketing and DTC. "We've seen an influx of new customers come to us through Reconsidered, so we're excited to continue offering them even more options through our expansion into the apparel category."

The New Balance Reconsidered resale platform is supported by Archive, a leading platform for branded resale. Cleaning, fulfillment, and warehousing are provided by Tersus Solutions.

In addition to focusing on longevity and circularity of products, New Balance is also pursuing its release program as part of a larger set of sustainability goals. The company is committed to achieving approved 1.5°C-aligned emissions reduction goals through the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi); sourcing 100% renewable electricity for owned operations by 2025; continuing to source lower-impact materials; transitioning to lower carbon transportation; and engaging with governments to help enact better climate policy.

"With Reconsidered seeing strong engagement and continued growth, New Balance expanding into apparel is a natural next step,” said Emily Gittins, CEO of Archive. “We’re proud to work with a brand that’s investing for the long term, building systems to help keep products in circulation at scale and proving that resale can be core to how a modern brand operates.”

Headquartered in Boston, New Balance employs 14,000 associates around the globe and in 2025 reported worldwide sales of $9.2 billion.
