Meijer is bringing its scaled-down grocery format to a new state.

The retailer will open a 90,000-sq.-ft. Meijer Grocery store on July 11 in the mixed-use Promenade of Noblesville development, in Noblesville, Ind., near Indianapolis. It will be the chain's third Meijer Grocery location and the 43rd Meijer store in the state.

Meijer launched its grocery format in 2023 with the opening of two grocery stores in Lake Orion and Macomb Township, Mich. With a footprint of 75,000- to 90,000-sq.-ft., Meijer Grocery is designed to allow the retailer to open in more locations than was possible with its larger supercenter format, which is typically about 150,000 sq. ft.

The condensed layout is designed to “simplify the shopping experience and provide a streamlined shopping experience” for day-to-day needs, the company said. The Noblesville location is the third Meijer Grocery store opened by the retailer.

"Meijer has been providing an exceptional shopping experience to customers across Indiana for 30 years, and the Meijer Grocery in Noblesville will further solidify our commitment to the Hoosier State," said Travis Bernath, Noblesville Meijer Grocery store director. "We prioritize our customers' time, and ultimately developed this new streamlined grocery store format with convenience at the forefront. We're eager to deliver that experience and great value to area customers later this summer."

The Meijer Grocery format simplifies the customer shopping experience with all the categories customers are used to finding at the retailer, including:

  • Produce and grocery;
  • Fresh meat cut daily;
  • Bakery equipped with in-store cake decorators;
  • Full-service deli;
  • Pharmacy;
  • Health and beauty;
  • Baby, pets and consumables; and
  • Cards, party and floral.

Based in Grand Rapids, Mich., Meijer operates more than 500 supercenters, grocery stores, neighborhood markets, and express locations throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
