Martha Stewart launches app that offers AI assistance for home maintenance
Martha Stewart’s latest project leverages artificial intelligence to create personalized insights for home maintenance.
The lifestyle guru, along with Yih-Han Ma and Kyle Rush, is the co-founder of Hint, an “always-on” home intelligence platform designed to empower homeowners and make owning a home easier and more affordable. The app is available free to download on Apple’s app store. As the platform expands, premium features will be introduced as part of a future subscription offering.
Stewart is “very involved” with the startup, but not a financial investor, Rush told techcrunch.com. (According to the report, Rush led engineering at mattress startup Casper during its growth phase and was CTO of online retailer Maisonette.)
“She’s a real co-founder with a serious stake in equity, and she does work for the company and the app,” Rush said. “She’s not a figurehead.”
Powered by a patent-pending intelligent system Hint combines AI, real-time data and decades of home expertise to help homeowners stay ahead of costs, maintenance and complex decisions. Acting as a personal home advisor, Hint monitors a home's needs, surfaces what requires attention and guides the next best course of action with cost and long-term value in mind.
Starting with a home address, Hint builds a living profile of the home using public records, environmental and utility data, along with homeowner-provided information such as inspections, warranties and appliance manuals. It then works continuously behind the scenes, surfacing what needs attention before small issues become expensive ones.
"A well-run home requires attention and good judgment," said Stewart. "Hint makes that easier by helping homeowners stay organized and informed, so they can care for their homes with greater confidence and become better stewards of their property.”
Hint is built for all homes, the company noted. Rather than relying on generic checklists or one-size-fits-all chatbot responses, it continuously builds an understanding of each property's structure, systems, appliances, the surrounding weather, soil, utility landscape, and the homeowner's own priorities.
"That expertise comes from Martha Stewart's decades of experience and Hint's team of experts, built into the product itself," the company stated. "The result: real savings on utilities, insurance, and home services, fewer costly repairs, a home that holds its value, and one less thing weighing on the homeowner's mind."
