  • Kohl's completes deal with Capital One

    MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. -- Kohl’s Department Stores announced the completion of its private-label credit card portfolio transfer to Capital One Financial Corporation, effective as of April 1, 2011. Capital One has acquired the more than 20 million existing Kohl’s Charge accounts and through the seven-year agreement will offer private-label credit cards to new and existing Kohl’s customers.

  • Modell’s opens 147th store

    New York City -- Modell’s Sporting Goods announced the opening of the company’s 147th store this past weekend with the grand opening of a new 8,451-sq.-ft. store located in the Interstate Shopping Center in Ramsey, N.J.

  • EPA names Staples Energy Star Partner of the Year in Energy Management

    Framingham, Mass. -- Staples on Monday said it has been named a 2011 Energy Star Partner of the Year in Energy Management by the EPA. The chain has increased its renewable energy purchases and development to cover 53% of its total U.S. electricity consumption, more than double the company’s previous level.

    Staples has also been named an Energy Star Leader by the EPA for reducing energy consumption by more than 11% across its facilities, based on EPA's standardized tools for tracking energy use.

  • Ascena appoints senior VP

    Suffern, N.Y. -- Ascena Retail Group said that Jay S. Levine has been appointed senior VP, chief accounting officer and corporate controller of Ascena Retail Group with responsibilities for SEC reporting, financial planning and analysis, internal controls and corporate taxes.

    Ascena operates 2,478 stores under its, Dressbarn, Maurices and Justice banners.

  • Furniture First selects TD Retail Card Services for private label credit services

    Mahwah, N.J. -- TD Retail Card Services announced that it has been selected as a preferred provider of private label credit services for members of Furniture First, a home furnishings and mattress purchasing cooperative with more than 175 retail furniture dealers operating over 360 locations nationwide.

    Under the agreement, the Mahwah, N.J-based business unit of TD Bank, N.A., will offer a full range of private label credit products and services, custom financing options and special benefits to participating members of the co-op.

  • Toys ‘R’ Us taps former Mattel exec as president of U.S. business

    Wayne, N.J. -- Toys “R” Us has selected Neil Friedman, most recently president of Mattel Brands, to serve as president of its U.S. business.

    Friedman will oversee all merchandising, marketing, store operations, global sourcing and product development, and allocation for the chain’s 866 U.S. stores and online business. He will report to Toys “R” Us chairman and chief executive Gerald Storch.

  • VeriFone and Hypercom in deal to sell Hypercom’s U.S. payment systems business

    San Jose, Calif. -- VeriFone Systems and Hypercom Corp. announced that they have reached an agreement to sell the U.S. payment systems business of Hypercom to Ingenico S.A.

    The transaction is expected to close immediately prior to completion of VeriFone’s acquisition of Hypercom, which is expected to occur in the second half of 2011, subject to certain closing conditions.
