  • Cabela’s to open new store in Tulalip, Wash.

    Sidney, Neb. -- Cabela’s will open a store in Tulalip, Wash., in 2012.

    The 110,000-sq.-ft. store will be located within Quil Ceda Village on the Tulalip Tribes Indian reservation, about 30 miles north of Seattle. It will be the outdoor retailer’s second Washington store.

  • Groupon ventures into grocery deals with Big Y

    CHICAGO and CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and SPRINGFIELD, Mass. and BOSTON — Through a partnership with Incentive Targeting and HaloEffect, Big Y Foods will become the first grocery retailer to offer Groupon deals digitally loaded to shoppers’ loyalty cards, the companies announced.

  • Republic launches mobile optimized website powered by Venda

    Austin, Texas -- Digby announced Tuesday that U.K. apparel retailer Republic has launched a mobile optimized website through Venda’s advanced mobile platform powered by Digby.

    Through the platform, Republic is introducing mobile as a strategic channel that complements its e-commerce site and more than 110 retail stores across the United Kingdom. The mobile shopping experience will allow customers to search, browse and buy products in as little as 60 seconds from mobile devices such as iPhone/iPod Touch, BlackBerry and Android.

  • New store in Pittsburg to host TGT annual meeting

    A lot of companies are content to conduct their annual meetings in a hotel ballroom near their headquarters, but not Target. This year the retailer and its senior executives are schlepping east to Pittsburgh where the company’s annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 8 at 1:30 p.m. at a store located about five miles east of downtown Pittsburgh at 6231 Penn Avenue. According to the company, “This location allows us to showcase our current general merchandise store design in the latter stages of construction prior to opening.”

  • Calendar day shifts aid May sales for Walgreens

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — May proved to be a good month for Walgreens, as the drug store chain posted a total sales jump of 7% to nearly $6.1 billion.

    Walgreens reported that its total front-end sales experienced a 5.5% increase, while comparable front-end sales realized a 3.6% increase.

  • Anthropologie to open on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

    New York City -- Robert K. Futterman & Associates said it has arranged a 14,564-sq.-ft. lease for Anthropologie at 1230 Third Ave. for its first Upper East Side location.

    Set to open this holiday season, the retailer will consist of 5,051 sq. ft. on the ground-floor and 9,513 sq. ft. of lower-level retail space. 

    This will be Anthropologie’s fifth location in Manhattan. 

  • Sugar and Plumm to open on Upper West Side

    New York City -- SRS Real Estate Partners said that “Sugar and Plumm Purveyors of Yumm” has leased 4,206 sq. ft. at the northeast corner of Amsterdam Avenue and West 78th Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

    The retail and food concept features artisan desserts, candy and more, with the interiors designed by Rockwell Group.

    Sugar and Plumm will open its first location this summer at Bergen Town Center in Paramus, N.J.

  • Ace Hardware ranks highest in customer satisfaction in J.D. Power survey

    Oak Brook, Ill. -- The J.D. Power and Associates 2011 U.S. Home Improvement Retailer Store Satisfaction Study again ranked Ace Hardware “Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Home Improvement Retail Stores.” Ace has held this position since the organization began researching the home improvement category five years ago.
