  • Vitamin Shoppe opens first international store

    PANAMA CITY — U.S.-based Vitamin Shoppe has opened its first international franchised Vitamin Shoppe store in Panama City, via franchisee, Reprico. The retailer operates more than 600 retail locations across the United States.

    "Our grandparents were pioneers in Pharmacy in Panama," said Marta Ferrer, director retail Stores for Reprico. "We are excited to open a store that can help people feel better and live healthier with the best quality products."

  • Family Dollar names merchandise head

    MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar Stores has named Scott Zucker to the newly created position of SVP merchandise operations. Zucker will be responsible for driving the strategy and execution of merchandise initiatives, category management, merchandise planning and replenishment. In his new role, he will report to Michael Bloom, president and COO.

  • Canadian Tire opens a digital lab

    Toronto -- Canadian Tire has opened a digital development lab in Communitech, a start-up incubator that is home to some 100 startups and small businesses along with such “strategics” partner companies as Google Inc. and Intel Corp.
     
    Communitech supports tech companies at all stages of their growth and development in the commercialization of innovative technologies.

  • New York & Company returns to profit in Q4

    NEW YORK — New York & Company reported that net sales for the fourth quarter were $291.8 million, as compared with $271.8 million in the year-ago period. 

    Comparable-store sales increased 2.3% compared with a decrease of 6.3% in the prior year fourth quarter.

    Net income increased to $10.5 million, or 17 cents per diluted share. This compares with a net loss in the prior year fourth quarter of $10.9 million, or 18 cents per diluted share.

  • Walgreens opens on historic Magazine Street

    New Orleans -- Covington, La.-based Stirling Properties said that Walgreens has opened a new store on Magazine Street in New Orleans.

  • Golfsmith goes ‘Xtreme’ with new Houston store

    That old expression about everything being bigger in Texas was given more credence today with the grand opening of a 40,000-sq.-ft. Golfsmith superstore in Houston.

    The store, one of 10 planned openings for 2013, is what the company calls its Xtreme format. The new location in the west Houston suburb of Katy gives the company five Houston locations, 13 stores throughout Texas and more than 150 locations nationwide.

  • Sur La Table to use Island Pacific software solutions

    IRVINE, Calif. — Software solutions provider, Island Pacific, a division of 3Q Holdings Limited, announced that Sur La Table has decided to deploy Island Pacific's SmartRetail browser based User Interface and Data Warehouse solutions, as well as the latest release of Island Pacific Merchandising System (IPMS) and Merchandise Planning solution (IPP).
