  • EBay still plans Russian expansion

    San Jose, Calif. – EBay Inc. is still planning to expand its operations in Russia despite U.S. sanctions against the country’s government. In public comments made in Moscow, EBay VP Wendy Jones said Russia is EBay’s top priority for expansion of its EBay Marketplaces division, and that eBay Marketplaces should go live in Russia in September.

    Jones also said EBay doubled its Russian buyer base in 2013 and sold $425 million worth of goods there in 2012. Currently, Russian consumers make 90,000 EBay transactions per day.

  • Lowe's expands Iris as competition in connected home space heats up

    Lowe's has launched new products for its Iris smart home solution. The move comes three weeks after Staples threw its hat into the connected home space with its own platform.

    The home improvement company has added a smart garage door controller, electronic pet door, window blinds controller and hose faucet timer to make it easier to cut energy costs, reduce water usage and keep the home secure while consumers balance active summer schedules.

  • Stylewhile launches new iPad app for designer marketplace

    New York - Shopping app Stylewhile is launching a new online marketplace for emerging and independent designers. The iPad app allows users to virtually try-on different items, mix and match pieces from multiple brands, and buy online.

    Stylewhile's virtual fitting room service allows users to try on clothes on a model of a chosen body type. Established retailers and brands will also be available through the app, meaning shoppers can mix and match multiple brands in the one look.

  • FreshDirect expands community outreach with new hire

    FreshDirect has tapped longtime public employee Larry Scott Blackmon as the grocery delivery company’s VP, community and government affairs.  
     
    In his new position, Blackmon will work to build and expand the company’s community partnerships — especially in New York City’s Bronx borough, where FreshDirect is relocating its office.

  • Changing of the guard at Express

    Michael Weiss, who started with Express when it was an eight-store operation, will retire as CEO of the 600 plus-store specialty apparel company when its fiscal year ends on January 30, 2015.

    He will be succeeded by David Kornberg, 46, president, who will assume the added role of chief executive. Weiss, 73, will remain with Express as nonexecutive chairman of the board.

State of Retailing Online study, which surveyed 81 retailers in May and June 2014, 85% of retailers cite search engine marketing as one of the most effective customer acquisition tactics.
