  • Haggar Clothing promotes marketing, sales executives

    DALLAS — Haggar Clothing, which makes casual and fine apparel for men, has promoted two executives to key positions within the company's merchandising and sales organizations. 

    Nancy Dowling has been promoted to VP merchandising and design. She previously served for three years as the director of design for men's casual for the Haggar brand.  Under her direction, the brand has increased market share by over 16%, adding innovative new products and collections to the Haggar brand offering. 

  • Belk utilizes ChannelAdvisor for e-commerce management

    RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Belk has engaged the services of ChannelAdvisor, a global e-commerce platform provider, for comparison shopping strategy and data feed management. Belk is utilizing ChannelAdvisor’s Comparison Shopping and Flex Feed solutions to skillfully create, optimize and distribute Belk’s product data feeds to multiple shopping engines such as Shopzilla, Shopping.com, Nextag and PriceGrabber as well as to a variety of other commerce partners.

  • Coach Q4 income tops expectations, but sales miss

    New York -- Coach Inc. reported Tuesday that net income for the quarter ended June 30 rose 24% to $251.4 million, from $202.5 million in the same period last year, topping Wall Street projections.

    The company’s revenue in the quarter rose 12% to $1.16 billion, below analysts’ expectations of $1.2 billion. Slowing growth at the company’s factory-outlet stores impacted sales. Coach reinstated coupons at its factory stores late in the quarter amid increasing discounting among retailers.

  • Costco stays tuned to PRN channel

    Costco’s enhanced its ability to sell 3D televisions with the renewal and upgrade of a relationship with Premium Retail Networks (PRN).

    Under the new agreement, PRN’s upgraded in-store media HDTV Network will provide Costco warehouses with a dedicated 3D content channel to support Costco’s 3D consumer electronics education initiatives. PRN is further integrating its HDTV Network platform with Costco’s technology infrastructure to support a wider range of media formats.

    SEATTLE — Mercent, a technology company that enables retailers to profitably reach and convert more shoppers online, announced that it has appointed Jacqueline Borges as its VP partnerships.

  • Deloitte survey: Back-to-school shoppers ready to spend, driven by mobile

    New York -- A survey released Tuesday by Deloitte found that shoppers are prepped to spend on back-to-school items, and plan to use their mobile phones in the process.

  • Weis Markets profit rises in Q2; sales flat

    Sunbury, Pa. -- Weis Markets reported Tuesday that net income for the quarter ended June 30 rose 12.1% to $23.2 million, compared with $20.7 million in the year-ago period.

    Sales were essentially flat at $677.1 million, and same-store sales inched up 0.4%.

    President and CEO David Hepfinger cited a “stagnant sales environment” for the near-flat sales but said the grocer continues to improve efficiencies and store-level productivity.

    NEW YORK — Days of cutting back-to-school spending are over, as nearly 9-in-10 consumers plan to spend the same or more, according to Deloitte's annual back-to-school survey.
