  • Survey: 90% of retailers to offer some form of free shipping for holiday

    Washington -- Free shipping offers will abound this holiday season, according to Shop.org’s eHoliday survey conducted by BIGinsight. Nine in 10 (89.7%) retailers plan to offer some form of free shipping for online shoppers. When asked which promotions they will emphasize most heavily during the holiday season, 37.5% plan to offer free standard shipping with conditions (e.g. minimum purchase), and three in 10 (30.0%) will offer free standard shipping without conditions.

  • Stop & Shop store to feature new technologies

    QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop is opening a new store that will include new features that emphasize health and wellness and sustainability, the company said.

    Stop & Shop, a division of the U.S. subsidiary of Dutch supermarket operator Ahold, said the Wayland, Mass., store would include nine complementary electric car charging stations, as well as numerous energy-efficient features. The store's grand opening is scheduled for Nov. 16.

  • eBay delivers strong revenues in Q3

    SAN JOSE, Calif. — Revenue at eBay rose 15% to $3.4 billion for the third quarter ended Sept. 20 from the the same period last year. The company reported third quarter net income on a GAAP basis of $597 million, or 45 cents per diluted share, and non-GAAP net income of $718 million, or 55 cents per diluted share. GAAP and non-GAAP net income were up 22% and 14%, respectively, year over year due primarily to strong top-line growth.

  • 'Showrooming' remains a problem for retailers

    WHITING, Ind. — An online consumer survey shows that nearly half of consumers go into brick-and-mortar stores with their smartphones to research items without buying them and then looked for the same item at a lower price online.

    The 2,361-adult survey, conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of CouponCabin.com between Sept. 18 and 20, found that 43% of smartphone and tablet owners have engaged in the practice, known as "showrooming."

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. — GE's Brillion-enabled products have made their retail debut at Sears.

    Starting Thursday, more than 100 Sears stores in the Northeast will offer the GE Get Connected Starter Kit, plus the GE programmable thermostat and GE’s award-winning GeoSpring Hybrid Water Heater, all with Brillion technology, in one location.
