  • Pier 1 continues on comps upswing

    FORT WORTH, Texas — Pier 1 Imports continues on a positive trajectory, reporting its 12th consecutive quarter of earnings and same-store sales growth.

    For the second quarter, the company reported net income of $26.2 million, or 24 cents per share, compared with net income of $16.6 million, or 14 cents per share, for the same period last year.

  • ConAgra earns sustainable accolades

    OMAHA, Neb. — ConAgra Foods has been named to two leading sustainability indices. For the second straight year the company has earned a spot on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and for the first time, the company has been added to the Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP’s) 2012 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index.

  • McDonald's global same-store sales rise 3.7% in August

    Oak Brook, Ill. -- McDonald’s Corp. reported Tuesday that same-store sales overall increased 3.7% in the month of August.

    By segment, same-store sales rose 3% in the U.S., 3.1% in Europe, and a hearty 5.7% in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

    Systemwide sales for the month increased 1.2%.
     

  • Walmex same-store sales rose 4.1% in August, beating Street

    Mexico City -- Wal-Mart Stores’ Mexican arm Wal-Mart de Mexico reported Monday that same-store sales for the month of August rose 4.1%, beating analysts’ expected 2.8% increase.

    The retailer, which is being investigated for bribery to expedite store openings, projects improved results for the second half of the year.
     

  • Kroger Q2 profit slips, but tops expectations

    Cincinnati -- The Kroger Co. reported a better-than-expected second quarter profit of $279.1 million, down from $280.8 million a year ago. The supermarket company raised its forecast for the full year, buoyed by its strong loyalty program and its ability to keep costs in line.

    Revenue, including fuel, rose 3.9% to $21.73 billion.

  • Increased customer loyalty drives up Kroger Q2 performance

    CINCINNATI — Kroger attributed its gains in sales and earnings in the second quarter to cost control and increased customer loyalty and was confident enough to raise its earnings guidance.

    The retailer reported net earnings of $279.1 million, or 51 cents per diluted share, compared with net earnings of $280.8 million, or 46 cents per diluted share, for the same period last year.

  • David's Bridal selects Mercent to boost e-commerce growth

    SEATTLE — David's Bridal, a retailer of wedding attire and other nuptial-related items, has signed on to use Mercent's Retail software platform.

    David’s Bridal is utilizing Mercent Retail to increase online sales, revenue and profits across Amazon.com and high growth comparison shopping engines, Mercent said.
