  • Reports: Costco to expand headquarters

    New York -- Costco Wholesale Corp. will expand its Issaquah, Wash., headquarters, according to published reports on Friday.

    The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce reported Friday that Issaquah's director of economic development, Keith Niven, said the club retailer would expand the headquarters to take up as much as 1.5 million sq. ft.

    The Tacoma, Wash., News Tribune reported that the company currently takes up three buildings that are full.

  • Christopher & Banks narrows Q4 loss

    Minneapolis -- Christopher & Banks Corp. narrowed its fiscal fourth-quarter loss as the company received a boost from an extra week of sales and cut costs.

    The retailer posted a loss of $4.1 million for the 14 weeks through Feb. 2, compared with a loss of $53.2 million in the 13 weeks the year before.

    Revenue was up 10%, to $116 million from $105.6 million. Same-store sales jumped 18.5%.

    Total expenses fell 25% to $120 million.

  • Sales take a dive at Aeropostale

    NEW YORK — Aeropostale reported that net sales for the fourth quarter decreased 1% to $797.7 million, from $808.4 million in the year ago period. Fourth quarter comparable sales, including the e-commerce channel, decreased 8% compared with a 7% decrease for the corresponding 14-week period of the prior year.  Fourth quarter comparable store sales, excluding the e-commerce channel, decreased 9%, compared to a decrease of 9% for the corresponding 14-week period of the prior year. 

  • IBM experiments with new Customer Service Lab

    ARMONK, N.Y. — IBM has opened its Customer Experience Lab in New York with the goal of helping business leaders transform the way customers experience their products, services and brands through the use of mobile, social, cloud and advanced analytics technologies. 

     IBM scientists and business consultants will co-create with clients to deliver systems that learn and personalize the experiences of each individual customer, identify patterns, preferences and create context from Big Data, and drive scale economics. 

  • Sales up at Lifetime brands

    GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — Lifetime Brands, maker of houseware and kitchen products under such brand names as Kitchenaid, Farberware and Cuisineart, reported that consolidated net sales for the fourth quarter were $154.8 million, an increase of 12.5%, as compared with consolidated net sales of $137.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2011.

    Net income was $15.2 million, or $1.19 per diluted share, in the 2012 period, as compared with $5.4 million, or 43 cents per diluted share, in the prior-year period.

    Armonk, N.Y. -- IBM on Thursday announced the creation of the IBM Customer Experience Lab, dedicated to helping business leaders transform the way customers experience their products, services and brands through the use of mobile, social, cloud and advanced analytics technologies.

    The IBM Customer Experience Lab will provide CEOs, CMOs, CFOs, heads of sales and other C-suite executives direct access to a virtual team of 100 researchers, supported by the expertise of thousands of IBM business consultants addressing the opportunities of the digital front office.

  • Sales and income up at The Buckle

    KEARNEY, Neb. — The Buckle announced that net income for the fiscal quarter was $61.4 million, or $1.29 per share ($1.28 per share on a diluted basis), compared with $56.1 million, or $1.19 per share ($1.18 per share on a diluted basis) for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011. Net income for the fiscal year was $164.3 million, or $3.47 per share ($3.44 per share on a diluted basis), compared with $151.5 million, or $3.23 per share ($3.20 per share on a diluted basis) for the fiscal year ended January 28, 2012..

  • Cabela’s customers continue to buy guns

    First quarter same store sales are expected to increase in the high teens at Cabela’s and drive earnings substantially higher than analysts’ estimates, the retailer said late Tuesday in advance of an investor conference today.

    Cabela’s reported a firearms and ammunition driven 12% same store sales increase for its fourth quarter ended December 29, 2012. When those results were released a month ago the company said the favorable trends seen in the fourth quarter had accelerated into the first quarter.
