    Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores on Thursday posted a 2.8% increase in its third-quarter profit. But the chain cut its annual outlook for the second time in three months as its core shoppers continue to feel economic pressures.

    Walmart managed to achieve its third quarter profit target despite reporting weaker than expected U.S. sales which prompted the company to issue a tepid outlook for fourth quarter sales at Walmart U.S. stores and Sam’s Club units.

  • Kohl’s misses as Q3 earnings fall 18%; lowers full-year outlook

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. – Kohl’s Corp. missed Wall Street forecasts with a generally poor showing in the third quarter of fiscal 2013 that saw the retailer’s net income fell 18% to $177 million from $215 million a year ago. The chain lowered its full-year earnings forecast.

    In addition, net sales dropped 1% to $4.44 billion, from $4.49 billion. Same-store sales fell 1.6%.

  • Macy’s posts strong Q3; profit up 22%

    New York -- Macy's reported a profit for the third quarter that easily exceeded Wall Street, helped by stepped up marketing.

    For the quarter ended Nov. 2, Macy's earned $177 million, up from $145 million a year ago.

    Revenue rose 3% to $6.28 billion. Same-store sales increased 3.5%, beating the 2.1% rise analysts expected.

    Sales trends improved in every region, and both the Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s chains performed well, the retailer said.

  • Pinnacle’s Q3 bolstered by North America retail biz

    Pinnacle Foods reported a 1% increase in consolidated net sales for the third quarter ended Sept. 29 compared to the year-ago quarter, bolstered by the company’s North America retail business, which is made up of the Birds Eye Frozen and Duncan Hines Grocery segments and which increased 2%.

  • Ace Hardware has mixed results in third quarter

    Ace Hardware reported somewhat mixed results for its third quarter with 8.9% growth in revenues compared to 2012, and profits that were essentially flat compared to the prior year quarter.

    The hardware cooperative netted $1 billion in revenues for the quarter, an increase of $84.4 million over the same quarter in 2012.

    Meanwhile, net income came in at $34.4 million, little changed since 2012's figure of $34.3 million.
