  • SpartanNash promotes CFO to COO

    New York -- Grocery distributor and retailer SpartanNash has promoted Dave Staples, current executive VP and CFO, to COO. Staples will oversee all three operating segments of the company: retail, wholesale and military distribution. He will continue to serve as CFO until his replacement is hired.

    Staples joined SpartanNash in January 2000, serving as the company’s executive VP and CFO since November of 2000

  • SpartanNash names ex-Walgreens exec as president

    Grocery distributor and retailer SpartanNash is looking to a former Walgreens executive to help drive growth.

    Derek Jones, currently SpartanNash’s EVP, food distribution, has been promoted to president, wholesale and distribution operations. He will oversee the entire supply chain, including military supply chain operations.

    Roanoke, Va. -- Advance Auto Parts announced that Todd Greener has been appointed senior VP, supply chain.

  • Report: West Coast ports running at 50%-60% of capacity; retailers stockpile inventory

    Los Angeles -- The 29 West Coast ports, which handle 44% of container cargo in the U.S., are currently running at approximately 50-60% capacity, according to a report released Thursday by CBRE Group, the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm. Five of the ports — Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, Tacoma and Seattle — are among the top 10 largest and busiest ports (by total TEU volume) in the United States.

  • Ikea ready to build its new Midwest hub

    Ikea is moving ahead with its strategy to expand its footprint in the Midwest by finalizing plans on a massive new distribution center in Illinois.

    The retailer has submitted final plans to the City of Joliet, Ill., that would advance the development of its previously approved main Midwestern distribution center.

  • Urban Outfitters takes next step in omnichannel strategy

    Urban Outfitters is taking its omnichannel strategy to the next level by relocating its e-commerce fulfillment center to a new, 1 million square foot building in Pennsylvania.   The retail company plans to relocate its Trenton, S.C., e-commerce fulfillment center to a new building in Gap, Pa. Construction of the fulfillment center in Gap is on schedule to be complete by July.  

  • Urban Outfitters e-commerce fulfillment center moving to Pennsylvania

    Philadelphia - Urban Outfitters Inc. plans to relocate its Trenton, South Carolina e-commerce fulfillment center to Gap, Pennsylvania. Construction of the new one million-sq.-ft. fulfillment center in Gap is on schedule to be complete by July 2015.

  • NRF urges D.C. to act on ports

    As the Pacific Maritime Association prepares to shut down U.S. West Coast ports from Feb. 13-16, the National Retail Federation (NRF) is issuing a public statement asking for direct White House intervention.
