  • Rooms to Go to open massive furniture complex in North Carolina

    Rooms to Go is cutting the ribbon this weekend on the largest retail furniture store in the Southeastern United States.

    The Florida-based retailer will open a Rooms to Go Super Center and Distribution Center on Oct. 17 in Dunn, North Carolina. The newly built facility comprises approximately 1,450,000 sq. ft. on 120 acres and houses a state of the art Rooms to Go showroom, a Rooms to Go Kids/Teens showroom, a Rooms to Go Outlet Center and a huge distribution center housing tens of thousands of pieces of furniture.

  • Nordstrom announces holiday hiring plans

    Nordstrom plans to hire about 11,800 seasonal employees for the coming holiday season, mostly for sales and stock positions at the upscale chain and its less pricey Nordstrom Rack locations.

    The retailer also plans to hire 1,600 temporary workers to support its e-commerce business at its three fulfillment centers.

    Wakefern Food Corp. announced Monday that it had promoted three of its executives to new leadership roles.

  • Which supermarket chain has lowest refrigerant emissions rate?

    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Stater Bros. Markets with its GreenChill Partnership's "Best Emissions Rate" award.

    The honor recognizes the supermarket chain for maintaining the lowest corporate-wide refrigerant emissions rate among large retail GreenChill partners — some 10,800 stores in all — in 2014. It is the third time Stater Bros. Markets has been recognized with this distinction.

  • Search on for new Supervalu CEO

    Supervalu announced that president and CEO Sam Duncan will retire at the end of the company’s fiscal year. The company also elevated two other executives to key senior leadership roles and affirmed its commitment to exploring strategic alternatives for the Save-A-Lot retail division.

    The $18 billion grocery wholesaler and retailer said Duncan would remain with the company until February 29, 2016. He joined the company in February 2013 in connection with the sale by Supervalu of five retail banners to Albertsons.

  • The Home Depot builds physical omnichannel infrastructure

    The Home Depot is building physical infrastructure to support online operations. The home improvement giant is officially opening the third of three facilities designed to support its online business, IT transformation and overall interconnected retail strategy.

    The new 1.6 million-sq.-ft. facility is located in Troy Township, Ohioand is expected to eventually employ 500 workers. Home Depot is opening the center as online sales continue to grow and currently account for 5% of total revenues.
