  • Barneys.com introduces international shipping

    NEW YORK — Barneys New York has announced that its e-commerce website, Barneys.com (www.Barneys.com), has introduced international shipping to 90 countries including Canada, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Australia, and China.

    According to Barneys, international customers will be able to make payments on Barneys.com in their preferred currency with cost-effective international shipping and handling services.

  • Joplin tornado victims get help from Walmart

    Walmart has pledged $1 million in relief efforts to help the tornado victims in Joplin, Mo. It also is working to direct truckloads of water, food and other basic items to Joplin.

    The company reported that its Joplin store number 59 was able to implement its severe weather safety plan and help save hundreds of lives. However, the Walmart store near Rangeline Road was significantly damaged, as the company reported the tornado went through the building causing some injuries and fatalities.

  • Big Lots ventures into Canada, 4Q comps slip

    COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the first time, Big Lots is expanding its retail operations outside of the United States with the announcement that it has agreed to purchase all of the outstanding stock of Liquidation World Inc., an Ontario based retailer which operates 92 closeout stores in Canada. 

  • Walmart, Home Depot each pledge $1 million for Joplin tornado relief

    New York — Walmart and The Home Depot have each pledged $1 million to help rebuilding efforts in tornado-ravaged Joplin, Mo.

    Each of the retailers had a store in Joplin that was leveled in the storm. Both stores had fatalities inside them.

    In a statement, Walmart said it has accounted for all of its associates working at the store at that time, but still is reaching out to all of its employees in the area. It also is working to direct truckloads of water, food and other basic items to Joplin.

  • Zumiez swings to profit, to open 44 stores

    Everett, Wash. -- Zumiez reported Thursday net income of $1.9 million in the first quarter, compared with a loss of $1.9 million in the year-ago period. The retailer said it plans to open 44 new stores in fiscal 2011, including its first stores in Canada.

    The results for the first quarter of fiscal 2010 include costs of approximately $1.2 million associated with the relocation of the company's distribution center from Everett, Wash., to Corona, Calif.

  • Trade in that old tablet for an Amazon gift card

    SEATTLE — Amazon.com has launched an electronics trade-in service that allows customers to exchange their used electronics for Amazon.com gift cards. According to Amazon.com, customers can trade in multiple items, including video games, tablets and cell phones, at the same time by sending in one box. 

  • ECOtality selects JLL for site selection of Blink EV stations

    Chicago -- As part of its $114.8 million federal stimulus grant to construct the country’s electric vehicle (EV) charging station infrastructure, ECOtality said Thursday it has chosen Jones Lang LaSalle’s Corporate Retail Solutions team to assist in location selection, conduct due diligence and negotiate contracts with potential host locations throughout EV Project regions to install ECOtality’s Blink EV Chargers.
