  • Ross Stores on the move in California

    Ross Dress for Less opened a new store North El Centro, California on March 5. The opening is part of the retailer’s 2016 expansion program, totaling about 70 new locations during the year.

    The 26,000- sq.-ft. store is located at Centro Commons, 11 miles north of the California-Mexico border, at the intersection of Imperial Avenue and Cruickshank Drive. With this location, Ross operates 277 stores in California, its largest state.

  • eBay expands shipping partnership

    eBay is providing a shipping optimization option to an increased range of sellers.

    The online auction platform is extending its integration with Silicon Valley-based on-demand shipping startup Shyp. Having already run pilots of Shyp in New York, Chicago and San Francisco, eBay is now piloting the service in Los Angeles.

    Shyp will pick up the items sellers have sold within 20 minutes, professionally pack them, and mail them straight to the buyer on their behalf.

  • Newegg says ‘eh’ to same-day pickup

    Soon Canadian technology enthusiasts will have a new, faster option for fulfilling online purchases.

    Digital computer and electronics retailer Newegg is opening a physical pickup center at its warehouse in Vancouver. In September 2015, Newegg sought to decrease the time and cost associated with order fulfillment to customers in Western Canada with the opening of its Vancouver warehouse.

    Adding the pickup center now gives customers in the Vancouver area the chance to fulfill their orders the same day, with no delivery fee.

  • Amazon takes to the air with fleet of Boeing jets

    It’s not drones, but Amazon.com has found a new way to make quicker deliveries via air. According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is leasing 20 Boeing 767 freighters as part of a deal with air cargo provider Air Transport Services. The agreement is intended to supplement Amazon’s existing delivery network. Amazon also purchased thousands of its own branded tractor-trailer trucks in December 2015. [Wall Street Journal]

  • Men’s Wearhouse parent company to close 250 stores

    The company formerly known as Men’s Wearhouse plans to significantly reduce its physical presence this year by closing 250 stores, including more than 20% of the Jos. A. Bank stores acquired in 2014.

    The major reduction is selling space by the company which changed its name to Tailored Brands earlier this year was announced in conjunction with the release of weak fourth quarter results that were in line with previously released results, which showed Jos. A. Bank stores had 32% decline in same-store sales.
