  • Canadian c-store giant buying up more U.S. stores

    On the heels of the biggest deal in its history, Canada’s Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. has entered into yet another deal to expand its U.S. footprint.   The retailer has signed an agreement to buy 53 stores in Louisiana, primarily in the Baton Rouge market, from American General Investments and North American Financial Group for an undisclosed price.    
  • Amazon continues to expand Texas fulfillment network

    Amazon announced plans to open a fulfillment center in Coppell, Texas. It will be the Internet giant’s eighth center in the Lone Star State.   “Our ability to expand Texas operations within three short years is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce in the state,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s VP of North American operations.   
  • CommerceHub adds integration with Walmart Marketplace

    CommerceHub, a distributed commerce network for retailers and brands, is expanding its existing partnership with Walmart, integrating directly with Walmart’s online third-party marketplace.   Under the new agreement, CommerceHub’s network of approximately 9,500 customers, including many of the largest retailers, marketplaces and brands in North America, will be able to team up with Walmart.com.

  • Perfumania names new COO

    Perfumania Holdings announced the appointment of Neal Montany as COO of the company, effective Aug. 29.   Montany will oversee the fragrance and beauty retailer’s operations, including IT, manufacturing, warehousing and facilities, logistics, loss prevention, purchasing and human resources.    
  • J.C. Penney focused on omnichannel

    Omnichannel initiatives are crucial to J.C. Penney’s newly-unveiled plan to drive profit and accelerate growth.   In a presentation at its 2016 analyst meeting, Penney said it is seeking to boost its e-commerce and omnichannel experience, starting with a newly redesigned app that enables customers to locate items, apply coupons and access their JCPenney Rewards more easily.    
  • PetSmart in pet relief effort

    PetSmart is reaching out to help pets stranded by the Louisiana floods   The chain and its charitable nonprofit arm, PetSmart Charities, are coming to the aid of hundreds of animals left homeless by the Louisiana floods, which is being called the worst natural disaster to hit the United States since Hurricane Sandy.  
  • Dollar General expands into North Dakota

    Dollar General is moving into North Dakota, announcing that it has begun construction on five new stores in the state. This gives the discount retailer a footprint in 44 states after having established operations in Maine, Oregon, and Rhode Island in 2015.   The initial North Dakota locations will be in Ellendale, Gwinner, Hankinson, Hillsboro, and Oakes. They’re being built in the chain’s standard 9,100-sq.-ft. format.
