  • Coke eyes Monster opportunity to energize growth

    The Coca-Cola Company plans to acquire a 16.7% interest in Monster Beverage Corporation in an unconventional partnership arrangement involving brands, global distribution and $2.15 billion in cash.

    The companies entered into a long-term strategic partnership designed to leverage their respective strengths — Coke’s worldwide bottling system and Monster’s expertise in the energy segment of the beverage category — to accelerate growth globally.

  • No surprises for Nordstrom in second quarter

    Nordstrom’s second quarter earnings were in line with its expectations. The results come two weeks after the company said it was acquiring Trunk Club, a men’s personalized clothing service, for $350 million.

    Profit for the quarter remained flat compared to last year’s second quarter at $183 million. Net sales for the quarter were $3.3 billion, a 6.2% increase from $3.1 billion in the prior-year quarter. Comparable sales increased 3.3%.

  • Amazon grows California operations

    Amazon plans to open a fifth California fulfillment center in Redlands. Since opening its first fulfillment center in the state less than two years ago, Amazon has expanded its presence to nearly 5 million sq. ft. Amazon’s other California fulfillment centers are located in San Bernardino, Moreno Valley, Patterson and Tracy.

    Oak Brook, Ill. – Net income at Ace Hardware Corp. rose 57% to $66.5 million, from $24.2 million. Revenues climbed 13% to $1.33 billion, from $1.17 billion.
