  • PriceSmart August sales jump; plans new Colombia stores

    San Diego – For the month of August 2014, net sales at PriceSmart Inc. increased 7.3% to $206.7 million, from $192.6 million in August a year earlier. Same-store sales for the month increased 2.3%.

    PriceSmart also announced the planned opening dates for the three warehouse clubs currently under construction in Colombia. The Bogota warehouse club is planned to open on Oct. 29; the Pereira warehouse club is planned to open on Nov. 13; and the Medellin warehouse club is planned to open on Nov. 26.

  • Five Below to open new DC in 2015

    Philadelphia – Five Below plans to open a new distribution center in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, in 2015. The center will replace an existing 421,000-sq.-ft. facility located in New Castle, Delaware.

    Five Below will occupy approximately 700,000 sq. ft. of the facility to start with, and plans to grow to one million sq. ft. over time. The new distribution center, which is expected to be fully operational in the second half of 2015, will support the company's continued growth and expansion on the East Coast.

  • Toys ‘R’ Us names new execs, including supply chain chief

    Wayne, N.J. – Toys “R” Us on Tuesday announced several executive appointments. The retailer named Debbie Lentz as senior VP, chief supply chain officer, with responsibility for U.S. distribution and customs compliance, global importing and exporting, fleet operations and domestic transportation, reporting to Hank Mullany, president, Toys “R” Us, U.S.

  • General Mills to add Annie’s to portfolio

    General Mills is in the process of acquiring leading natural and organic food company Annie’s for $46 per share in cash, for a total transaction value of approximately $820 million.  

    The transaction consideration represents a 51% premium over Annie’s 30-day average closing price of $30.47 as of Sept. 5. Annie’s will continue to be headquartered in Berkeley, California.

  • Destination XL taps Bay Enterprise to turn stores into omnichannel DCs

    King of Prussia, Pa. -- Destination XL Group Inc. has successfully implemented eBay Enterprise ship-from store solution in more than 100 stores. An eBay Enterprise Dropship Manager client since 2012, the combined solutions give DXLG more than 200 fulfillment locations to expand product availability to its customers.

    The cloud-based eBay Enterprise ship-from store module has been deployed across the Destination XL (DXL) and Rochester Clothing stores to provide more options and choices to DXLG’s diverse customer base.

  • Retail imports remain above average as port talks continue

    Washington, D.C. -- Retailers concerned by the lack of a West Coast longshoremen’s contract will continue to bring merchandise into the country at above-average levels this month but volume will drop from the record set in August, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.


  • Five Below opens new distribution center in NJ to support growth

    Five Below has signed a lease for a new distribution center in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. The 1,045,000-sq.-ft. facility, located at 5 Gateway Blvd. in Pedricktown, will replace the company's existing 421,000-sq.-ft. facility located 12 miles away in New Castle, Delaware.
